Klimatklivet is a subsidy that makes it possible to invest in fossil-free fuel. It can be applied for by companies, municipalities, regions and organizations in Sweden. It can be time-consuming and complicated to apply, so we help you with the application throughout the process. Since the start of Klimatklivets, we have seen record figures every year. Electrically powered traffic is becoming more common, and with that, charging solutions must keep pace for the charging infrastructure to last.

Support for charging stations

With Naturvårdsverkets initiativ Klimatklivet har du möjlighet att få upp till 50 procent av investeringskostnaden i stöd för laddlösningar. Naturvårdsverkets mål är att varje investerad krona ska ge störst påverkan för vårt klimats bättring. Resultatet sen Klimatklivets början uppskattas till en minskning med 3,1 miljoner ton CO2e/året.

Vem kan söka stöd?

Klimatklivet välkomnar anbud från till exempel företag inom åkerinäringen, luft- och sjöfart, turism- och fritidsnäring med flera.
Alla utom privatpersoner har möjlighet att söka.

Så länge ditt projekt uppfyller nedan kriterier så kommer Naturvårdsverket att bedöma det i sin urvalsprocess. Anbud bedöms sedan utifrån klimatnyttan och de villkor och regler som gäller. Projektet ska:

  • be a physical investment
  • reduce greenhouse gas emissions compared to if the measure is not implemented
  • only be possible with the help of support
  • be possible for your organization to co-finance and implement
  • be a local or regional investment

Different types of charging

There are a number of ways to apply for grants for charging infrastructure from the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency. The application process is slightly different depending on the type of charging infrastructure you plan to build. See below which category you can apply in for your particular project.

Publik AC & DC

Naturvårdsverket kan erbjuda stöd för laddstationer där det geografiskt finns behov för fler. Upp till 50% av investeringen kan ges i stöd till ett projekt i publik AC & DC. Det finns olika kriterier för två olika underkategorier i publik AC & DC.

DC – Light vehicles

  • Within 3 km of a major road or within an urban area
  • At least 150 kW (75 power distributed)
  • At least 4 charging points

AC – Light vehicles

  • Within urban areas according to the Klimatklivet's mapping tool
  • 10-50 kW
  • At least 5 charging points

Non-public DC

Non-public DC is aimed at trucks, buses and boats. However, the project must not fulfill the conditions for a grant from the Environmental Protection Agency's other grants"Ladda bilen”. 

If necessary, energy storage can also count towards the project's investment support, with the criteria that it complements the power supply via the grid and is installed to maintain power to the charging station.

In order to apply for support for a project in non-public DC, evidence for an emission calculation is needed. Such a basis requires information such as the fuel being replaced, fuel consumption, mileage, expected use of the charging station and evidence to support these assumptions.

The share of the aid depends on the size of the company.

  • At most 20% for large companies
  • At most 40% for medium-sized companies
  • At most 50% for smaller companies

Non-public DC

The Environmental Protection Agency has a separate grant for charging stations at homes and workplaces called ”"Ladda bilen”. Bidraget kan sökas av bostadrättsföreningar, företag och andra organisationer som vill erbjuda laddning för elfordon för boende och anställda.

Upp till 50% av investeringen kan ges i stöd för flerbostadshus eller kontor, men max 15 000 kr per laddpunkt. Bidraget kan täcka kostnader så som arbete, material, grävning, installation och liknande. Bidraget kan dock inte delas ut till privatpersoner och kan inte heller gå till laddstationer avsedda för allmänheten eller laddstationer som måste installeras enligt lag, annan författning eller villkor i tillstånd.

"Ladda bilen går alltid att söka till och har inga särskilda ansökningsperioder.

Väntetiden på ansökningar är cirka 3 månader.

Application periods

There has been great interest in Klimatklivet. A large part of the funds in Klimatklivet are tied up in ongoing and future projects. If Klimatklivet's funding is increased in the upcoming budget proposal, we will open a call for applications after the summer.

  • 22 September–3 Oktober 2025 (only in case of increased funding).

Lokaliseringskriterier

  • Betalning och annan information max 1,2m över parkeringsplatsen
  • Betalning ska kunna ske med betalkort via en kortterminal
  • Du ska kunna ladda från t.ex rullstol

Tekniska kriterier

  • At least 4 charging points
  • Ska kunna hantera så kallad smart laddning
  • Laddstationen ska förmedla information i Realtid och kopplas upp mot databasen Nobil
  • Laddstationen ska vara utrustad med anslutningsdon för likströmsladdning typ Combo 2 CCS2
  • Ska kunna erbjuda snabbladdning med minst 150kW kontinuerlig effekt

Naturvårdsverket can offer support for charging stations where there is a geographical need for more. Use Klimatklivets map tool to see the relevant areas. For a successful application, you need to meet one of the following criteria.

Area

Your charging station is placed within an urban area at least 3 km from a major road.

Major road

Your charging station is placed at least 25 km from another installed or authorized charging station along a major road.

Urban area

Your charging station is placed at least 1 km from another installed or authorized charging station.

The Swedish Environmental Protection Agency's goal is for every krona invested to have the greatest possible impact on improving our climate. The result since Klimatklivet began is estimated at a reduction of 3.1 million tons of CO2e/year.

What is Klimatklivet?

Klimatklivet är ett stöd som gör det möjligt att satsa på fossilfri drivkraft. Det kan vara tidskrävande och komplicerat att ansöka, därför hjälper vi dig genom hela processen. Sedan Klimatklivets början har vi sett rekordsiffror varje år. Eldriven trafik blir allt vanligare och med det måste etableringen av laddlösningar hålla samma takt för att laddinfrastrukturen ska hålla. Därför är detta ett av Klimatklivets prioriterade områden och en viktig del i omställningen till grönare transporter.

Taking part in Klimatklivet can be crucial to realising an investment in charging stations – but the conditions must be right from the start. With the right plan and partnership, you will not only have half of your investment financed; you will also be taking a clear step towards making your business climate-smart and future-proof.

Who can apply?

Klimatklivet welcomes bids from companies in sectors such as haulage, aviation and shipping, tourism and leisure, and others. Anyone except private individuals is eligible to apply.

As long as your project meets the criteria below, the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency will assess it in its selection process. Tenders are then assessed based on their climate benefits and the applicable terms and conditions. 

The project will:
  • be a physical investment
  • reduce greenhouse gas emissions compared to if the measure is not implemented
  • only be possible with the help of support
  • be possible for your organization to co-finance and implement
  • be a local or regional investment

What is required to receive investment support?

Depending on what you are seeking support for, there are different categories of support. Each category has different criteria that must be met for a bid to be approved.

The project involves an actual physical investment. An idea alone is not enough—there must be a clear plan for installing charging stations that will lead to concrete reductions in emissions compared to an alternative where the investment is not made. The project also needs to be dependent on the support in order to be feasible, i.e., without funding from Klimatklivet, the initiative would not have been possible.

The organisation behind the project must have both the capacity to implement the initiative and finance its share of the investment. In addition, the initiative must be local or regional in scope – Klimatklivet does not target national or central infrastructure initiatives.

The Swedish Environmental Protection Agency can co-finance public charging infrastructure where there is a need for support. You can apply for support by submitting a tender when a call for proposals is open.

A bidder may submit a maximum of 25 bids per charging category.

The 2025 call for tenders is divided into two charging categories based on charging power. In each category, the bids compete against each other.

Public fast charging for passenger cars, from 150 kW

  • Power output of at least 150 kW (at least 75 kW during load balancing).
  • At least four charging points.

Public charging for passenger cars, 10–50 kW

  • Power output of 10–50 kW (minimum 2 kW for load balancing).
  • At least four charging points.

Map and geographic location

The charging station must be located in a geographical area that is eligible for support. You can see which areas are eligible on the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency's digital maps.  

Where there is no marking, the site is open for bidding. An area is closed when the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency assesses that public charging infrastructure can be built without support in the area.

A tender may only cover one charging station. The Swedish Environmental Protection Agency defines a charging station as charging points gathered in the same place where one operator is responsible for operation.

Charging infrastructure that must be implemented to comply with legal requirements may not be financed with subsidies. The Planning and Building Regulations (PBF) contain specific rules for parking areas.  

Klimatklivet can grant support for charging stations used in your own business, i.e. non-public charging. Energy storage can also be included in the measure if it supplements the power supply via the electricity grid and is installed to maintain power to the charging station.

In order to receive support from Klimatklivet, the measure must

  • be a physical investment
  • reduce greenhouse gas emissions compared to if the measure is not implemented
  • only be possible with the help of support
  • be possible for your organization to co-finance and implement
  • be a local or regional investment.

If your measure meets these conditions, you can apply for support from Klimatklivet. The Swedish Environmental Protection Agency then assesses the applications based on climate benefits and the applicable terms and conditions.

The climate benefit is assessed based on how much emissions are expected to decrease as a result of the investment. Therefore, an emissions calculation is one of the most important pieces of documentation in the application.

Always open, no specific application periods.

Charging your car can provide your organization with subsidies for costs such as labor, materials, excavation, installation, and similar expenses. The subsidy covers up to 50% of the costs, but with a maximum amount of $1,500 per charging point.

The subsidy cannot be awarded to private individuals. Nor can it be awarded to charging stations intended for public use or charging stations that must be installed in accordance with law, other legislation, or permit conditions.
