Investment grants for charging infrastructure at loading and unloading points

The Swedish Energy Agency has launched a call for bids to support the expansion of charging infrastructure for heavy-duty road transport at locations where vehicles already stop, such as logistics facilities, transshipment areas, ports, and recycling centers.

Applications for the grant may be submitted between March 3 and May 5, 2026, and may cover up to 50 percent of the investment cost. In certain geographic areas, additional support may be provided in accordance with the EU’s eligible areas.

The call for proposals includes requirements regarding technical capacity and project design. All companies are eligible to apply for up to 50 percent in funding, regardless of size. The facility must include DC charging with a power output of at least 150 kW per charging point, and energy storage may be included as an eligible component of the investment.

Applications are evaluated on a competitive basis, with priority given to projects that offer high impact relative to the amount of funding requested.

Refers to both the installation of new charging infrastructure and the upgrading of existing infrastructure

The call for bids covers both the establishment of new and the upgrading of existing charging infrastructure for heavy-duty transport. Investments may involve public charging facilities at loading and unloading points, as well as strategic locations along transport corridors, within the TEN-T road network, and in urban areas. In some cases, energy storage systems integrated into the facility may also be included as part of the investment.

We handle the entire process

1. Preliminary study and cost estimate
We will inspect the facility and gather the necessary information regarding location, cable length, and power supply.
2. Design and planning
We size cables, determine the length of cable runs, and prepare plans for the installation.
3. Excavation and groundwork

We lay cables, install cable cabinets, set up foundations, and complete parking areas according to your specifications.

4. Shipping hardware

Through careful procurement, we deliver the right DC chargers on time from leading manufacturers.

5. Installation and commissioning

Certified technicians install and commission the hardware in accordance with applicable requirements.

6. Documentation of facility

We prepare and submit all necessary documentation for the facility.

7. Operation and maintenance

We offer customized operation and maintenance agreements in accordance with the manufacturer’s service requirements.

Who can apply?

The grant is intended for entities that own or have control over properties where heavy road transport vehicles load and unload, such as those in the logistics, industrial, and retail sectors. Applications are often submitted in collaboration with multiple parties and require a clear project structure, sufficient capacity, and long-term use of the facility.

To be eligible for this grant, you must:

– There are many regulations and bureaucratic procedures surrounding this type of application and grant. I would argue that it is absolutely crucial to receive comprehensive assistance with this process.

What are Regional Electrification Pilot Projects?

Regional electrification pilot projects are a support program from the Swedish Energy Agency aimed at accelerating the electrification of heavy-duty transport through large-scale, regionally based initiatives. The focus is on developing charging infrastructure through collaboration among stakeholders, where capacity, power, and utilization rates are optimized in real-world operating environments.

Applying for funding under electrification pilot programs involves high standards for project planning, coordination, and technical design. Svensk Fordonsladdning provides support throughout the entire process—from the application and system design to the installation and operation of the facility. With the right conditions in place, you not only gain access to financing but also a scalable and future-proof charging infrastructure tailored to your business’s needs.

Customer case

Dalafrakt, Leksand

DalaFrakt is one of Dalarna’s best-known transportation companies and a company that has long been actively engaged in sustainability issues. With an increasing number of electric vehicles in its fleet, the company has now taken a major step forward in its electrification journey.

Application period 3 March-5 May 2026

Up to 50 percent of the investment cost may be granted, regardless of the size of the business

The facility must include DC charging with a minimum capacity of 150 kW per charging point

Energy storage systems may be included as an eligible portion of the investment

Applications are evaluated on a competitive basis, with priority given to those that demonstrate a high impact relative to the amount of funding requested

What is required to receive investment support?

To be eligible for investment grants under the Regional Electrification Pilot Program, projects must meet requirements regarding both technical design and implementation capacity. The investment must involve the establishment of charging infrastructure for heavy-duty road transport at properties where loading and unloading take place, and must be designed to meet actual operational needs with sufficient capacity and power.

The project aims to demonstrate how the facility contributes to increased electrification, high utilization rates, and efficient use of the power grid. This includes requirements for collaboration among stakeholders, a clear project plan, and realistic assumptions regarding usage and operation. Furthermore, the solution must be scalable over time and capable of being integrated into a broader system perspective.

The assessment also covers financial viability, feasibility, and the extent to which the project can contribute to a broader transition in the transportation sector.

The Swedish Environmental Protection Agency can co-finance public charging infrastructure where there is a need for support. You can apply for support by submitting a tender when a call for proposals is open.

A bidder may submit a maximum of 25 bids per charging category.

The 2025 call for tenders is divided into two charging categories based on charging power. In each category, the bids compete against each other.

Public fast charging for passenger cars, from 150 kW

  • Power output of at least 150 kW (at least 75 kW during load balancing).
  • At least four charging points.

Public charging for passenger cars, 10–50 kW

  • Power output of 10–50 kW (minimum 2 kW for load balancing).
  • At least four charging points.

Map and geographic location

The charging station must be located in a geographical area that is eligible for support. You can see which areas are eligible on the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency's digital maps.

Where there is no marking, the site is open for bidding. An area is closed when the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency assesses that public charging infrastructure can be built without support in the area.

The maps look different for each charging category.

Map: Public charging for passenger cars, 10–50 kW

A tender may only cover one charging station. The Swedish Environmental Protection Agency defines a charging station as charging points gathered in the same place where one operator is responsible for operation.

Charging infrastructure that must be implemented to comply with legal requirements may not be financed with subsidies. The Planning and Building Regulations (PBF) contain specific rules for parking areas.

Klimatklivet can grant support for charging stations used in your own business, i.e. non-public charging. Energy storage can also be included in the measure if it supplements the power supply via the electricity grid and is installed to maintain power to the charging station.

In order to receive support from Klimatklivet, the measure must

  • be a physical investment
  • reduce greenhouse gas emissions compared to if the measure is not implemented
  • only be possible with the help of support
  • be possible for your organization to co-finance and implement
  • be a local or regional investment.

If your measure meets these conditions, you can apply for support from Klimatklivet. The Swedish Environmental Protection Agency then assesses the applications based on climate benefits and the applicable terms and conditions.

The climate benefit is assessed based on how much emissions are expected to decrease as a result of the investment. Therefore, an emissions calculation is one of the most important pieces of documentation in the application.

"Ladda bilen is the subsidy that makes it possible to invest in charging stations at homes and workplaces. The subsidy can be applied for by housing associations, companies, and other organizations that want to offer charging for electric vehicles for residents and employees.

Who can apply?

Housing associations, organizations, and companies.

What can I apply for?

Installation of charging stations for electric cars intended for residents or employees.

Application period

Always open, no specific application periods.

Charging your car can provide your organization with subsidies for costs such as labor, materials, excavation, installation, and similar expenses. The subsidy covers up to 50% of the costs, but with a maximum amount of $1,500 per charging point.

The subsidy cannot be awarded to private individuals. Nor can it be awarded to charging stations intended for public use or charging stations that must be installed in accordance with law, other legislation, or permit conditions.
