V2G, Vehicle to Grid, is a technology that enables electric cars to give energy back to the grid. For example, it is possible to balance the load on the grid, i.e. to take power when there is a surplus and return it in return for compensation when the grid is heavily loaded. This means that electric cars can be used for more than just transporting people. With this technology, it would be possible to use an electric car as an energy store, and also to move the energy to other areas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The technology requires both software and hardware that is smart. Hardware in the form of additional power electronics that can convert the car's direct current into alternating current available in the electricity grids. And software to exchange data between the car and the charger, such as electricity contracts, tariff and billing information and other technical data.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The ISO 15118 technical standard brings together requirements for both hardware and information exchange. The standard, which is still under development, requires that both the car and the charging station have ISO 15118 implemented. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The cars currently on the market do not support V2G technology. Today, there is only one that offers customers the technology and that is Nissan. Which also sells chargers with V2G technology. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
A charging point with V2G technology is twice as expensive as a charging point without it. But it enables smart solutions, such as automatic identification when paying. This means that you are automatically identified when you plug into the charger and you don't need to use any app or payment card. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
